The Imagination Library, initiated by the United Way of Northeastern Minnesota in 2008, is a transformative early childhood education program that distributes free books to children from birth until age five. This initiative, originally founded by Dolly Parton, aims to foster a love of reading among young children by ensuring they have access to age-appropriate books regardless of family income. The program has successfully enrolled over 30,000 children across the Iron Range and Koochiching & Lake of the Woods Counties, significantly enhancing early literacy and preparing children for academic success.
